Abstract

The objective of the present study is to clarify the correlates of parental access to information regarding anti-crime measures for their children using data from a social survey on the everyday life of children and parental social support, and access to information regarding anti-crime measures. We hypothesize that low cultural background significantly predicts limited parental access to information regarding anti-crime measures. Structural equation modeling was applied to this dataset by the authors. The main results are as follows: 1) Parental access to information regarding anti-crime measures is directly affected by their cultural background, and social support moderates some of the effects of cultural background on access to anti-crime measures information. 2) Social support mediates some of the effects of working parents, single-family detached homes, and home ownership on access to anti-crime measures information. 3) Access to information regarding anti-crime measures is affected by indirect victimization.
