In part II, the results in part I are to be used to model a stable crack growth. Using a discrete crack model in the two dimensional finite element analysis, the crack closing stress (CCS) - crack opening displacement (COD) relation was determined to represent the stress transfer in the fracture process zone (FPZ) under mixed mode loading. A new crack propagation direction criterion was proposed to take into account the effects of the stress field away from the crack tip.
