Abstract

Although workstyle diversification is the subject of growing interest in Japan, debate tends to be one-sided, focusing mainly on diversification of employment status represented by a shift from a regular employee to a temporary worker or a contract worker. This paper outlines the background and the actual situation of workstyle diversification, and analyzes the process and cause of the one-sided debate. Finally, it discusses telework's effectiveness vis-a-vis workstyle and human resource management.
