抄録
This paper describes the residual gas (CO_2) concentration measurement in the combustion chamber of a practical engine using an in-situ infrared absorption method. CO_2 concentration was measured using an optical sensor installed in the spark plug. The effect of pressure on transmissivity and the CO_2 molar concentration was investigated by using a constant volume vessel. The CO_2 concentration was calculated from the transmissivity using a compression-expansion machine. The effect of temperature must be considered when calculating the CO_2 concentration. The CO_2 concentration was measured inside the engine cylinder near the spark plug. It was possible to measure the cycle-resolved CO_2, concentration near the spark plug and investigate the cycle-to-cycle fluctuations of mixture formation to achieve stable operation using the newly developed spark plug sensor.
