Abstract

As a new effective utilization of scallop shells, we developed a manufacturing method of vaterite-type CaCO_3 spherical particles which used scallop shells as materials, and have proposed the usage as concrete admixture. In our previous research, we confirmed that scallop shells spherical powder demonstrated ball bearing effects like fly ash, and it gave flowability to cement paste. In order to attain utilization of scallop shells spherical powder as concrete admixture, it is necessary to check the action in conditions where aggregate exists and the influence on the performance of a chemical admixture. As the result of this experiment, although scallop shells spherical powder had effects on improving the flowability of mortar, it became clear to have strong influence on the performance of a chemical admixture. In future research, chemical analysis must be conducted and the cause of influence on the effectiveness of a chemical admixture must be checked.
