Abstract

The complex flow field in a combustor cowl region is analyzed numerically by using the Overset Grid Method. The computed profiles of the total pressure loss are compared with the corresponding experimental data obtained in the basic combustion tests in the Eco-engine national project. It is seen that their discrepancy is tolerable for practical applications, so that the application of the Overset Grid Method to the present complex flow field is validated. In addition, it is confirmed that the method provides a powerful tool for the parametric study in the optimization of the structure of the combustor cold flow field.
