Abstract
The Japanese word 'yutori,' (ease, peace of mind) is used in everyday life and psychotherapy. However, there is almost no empirical research related to 'yutori.' Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to understand how modern adolescences experience 'yutori of mind' by previewing previous studies of 'yutori,' 2)and analyzing qualitative data. The results of our study suggested two important viewpoints: 1) 'yutori of mind' can be measured by both emotional states and behaviors when being experienced, 2) and emotional states concerning 'yutori of mind' can be described both positively and negatively. These differences seemed to reflect qualitative differences in how 'yutori of mind' is experienced.
