抄録

In this paper, the authors develop an arc shaped spring damper using viscoelastic material in order to reduce damage and prevent collapse at corners of a structure during earthquake. The device is composed of a viscoelastic material sheet sandwiched by two steel plates. It can strengthen stiffness by steel plates, and dissipate energy by shear deforming of viscoelastic material. It is available for not only wood houses, also old structures, for example castles and temples, since it can be fixed easily.
