義務教育が提唱されてから100年間以上も経過しているにもかかわらず,多くの発展途上国においては,それがいまだに普及されていない.それはなぜだろうか.本稿では,それを解明するために,途上国の中国を取り上げ,中国における義務教育の政策とその展開を検討した上で,中国西部辺境地域のK県で行ったインタビュー調査とアンケート調査の結果に基づいて,子どもたちを取り巻く教育環境や学齢児童の就学状況に焦点をあてて,分析する.

Although it's been more than 100 years since compulsory education was introduced it still hasn't spread to in many developping countries. Why? In order to find the answer, the writer of this paper studied certain Chinese laws and regulations concerning this matter,and then took time to do some investigations in a border county (K) in western China. Using the information gathered from the investigations, a survey was taken to find out about the educational circumstances in china and the results have lead to the conclusion of this thesis.
