大学生に中学生時代の学校の思い出を尋ねると答えは実に多様である.人間関係でつらかった体験も少なくないがよい思い出としてはクラスでの生活や修学旅行・合唱コンクールなどが上位にランクされることが多い.教育課程の分類で見てみるとそのほとんどが中学校の「特別活動」に係ることである.それだけ「特別活動」が成長期の中学生に与える教育的インパクトは大きい.この「特別活動」を学校において構成・実施していくにあたっては,学級担任や学年の担当者任せにすることなく,学校内外の「教育資源」を最大限有機的に組み合わせ計画的に実施することが大切である.学ぶ意欲の衰退やいじめの続発という教育課題に対してもこれを克服する力を生徒に培うきわめて有効な実践が「特別活動」である.

There could be wide varieties of answers, if you ask students impressive memories during their junior-high school days. However, quite often students rank a school excursion and chorus festival in a high position. These school events are classified as "Extra-Curricular Activities" in school curriculum. This means that extra-curricular activities give a great influence to students' growth. When extra-curricular activities are planned and enforced, an important thing is to make the most of educational resources both inside and outside school, and to organize them effectively. And then extra-curricular activities should be enforced according to a careful planning. Extra-curricular activities can be quite effective to develop students' ability to overcome current issues such as the decreasing of students learning motivation and continuous occurring of school builling.
