The author performed investigations on the significance of sugar intermediary metabolism, especially pyrobolic acid metabolism, in various diseases; the influence of vitamin B and the function of the liver in this connection were also investigated; and the research was carried out on the difference between fructose and glucose in decomposition and utilization in the living body. This method, in which variations inthe blood sugar and blood pyrobolic acid or blood lactic acid levels, preferably the latter, resulting from the loading of fructose are measured, will be reliable in testing functional activities of the liver in various diseases, serving the purpose of investigating various phases of sugar metabolism.
