Abstract

Considering to do something for his mother region after retiring in spring of 2006, Sumi moved there and started a study of investigating the root of the people there by DNA analysis, turning over from theoretical physics of his specialty. By connection that he studied photosynthesis for the last ten years in his university times, he could get a cooperation with Uzumaki, Itoh and Ishiura who specialize in biology. Reaction reverse to photosynthesis is respiration, and mitochondrion, one of intracellular organelles, in which respiration is taken place, has its own DNA. Sumi has paid attention also to the fact that its analysis has brought about fundamental rewriting about the root of the moderns in these 15 years. By this connection, he could be taught DNA analysis from Harihara. The present study has developed to determination of Jomon-type vs. Yayoi-type population ratio in various districts of Japan, which turned out to have recorded processes of formation of Japanese since ancient times.
