Abstract
This paper considers a system which is inspected at equally spaced points in time and whose deterioration follows a discrete-time Markov chain with an absorbing state. After each inspection, one of the following actions can be taken: operation, imperfect repair m (1≤m≤M) or replacement. When imperfect repair m is taken, the system in state i moves to state j with probability q^m_<ij>. We study an optimal maintenance policy which minimizes the expected total discounted cost for infinite horizon. It is shown that a generalized control limit policy is optimal. We investigate some properties of the optimal policy from the point of multiple repair. Furthermore, numerical analysis is conducted.
