• Do junior high school students "Love" Japan? : on the patriotism or nationalism of junior high school students in the Conservative society of contemporary Japan

抄録

The purpose of this study is to analyze the patriotism or nationalism of junior high school students based on a questionnaire, in correlation with their attributes, social relationships, academic achievement, etc. Since the mid-eighties, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has emphasized the importance of cultivating "love of country," to rewrite the Fundamental Law of Education established in 1947. But the number of children who "love" Japan has not been revealed empirically. 　The following facts have been shown through the analysis. 　First, over half of the children (55.2%) feel patriotic in their nation. Second, many of the children who are patriotic have high academic achievement. Third, they have good relationships with their friends and parents. Their social ties lead to patriotism or nationalism.
