Numerical method to investigate the elastic responses in waves of a unit module of Modular Floating System (MFS) was developed. In this study the MFS is simplified as two barges connected with the rubber connection. The hull is discretized as a structural system of three dimensional frame finite elements. The element mass matrix is calculated by the lumped mass matrix method. The two dimensional hydrodynamic forces acting on the hull elements are evaluated by the strip method. By assembling all element matrices with respect to global axis, the dynamic equations of body motions in waves are obtained. Integration of the difference between the hydrodynamic and the gravity forces, gives the shearing force, and by a further integration the bending moment can be determined. The Newmark-β method is applied to solve the dynamic equation. To verify the calculation results, the two-dimensional experiments were conducted by using a 2-D tank.
