Abstract
The Engineering Foundations Education Center (EFEC) was established at 2000. At the almost same time, the Mathematics and Science Education Study Meeting (MSESM) started as an engine for organized activities of EFEC. Since 2001, the MSESM investigated various issues for the engineering foundations education (EFE) such as improvement of academic ability of the mathematics and science, smooth transfer from the EFE to engineering education and e-learning system and others through the organized activities. Based on the above results, we have improved the curriculum of the EFE and developed new approaches of the EFE. The details were presented in KIT Progress No.14 as "Development of 0rganized Activities on Engineering Foundations Education (Part 1)". On proceeding the above activities, we found out necessity to investigate the correspondence to popularization of college and students having higher rank of academic ability. As a baseline of these investigations, we carried out a survey of the academic ability of mathematics for freshmen. Herein, we present the above survey result together with chronological trend over 4 years from 2006 and also report the effect of current class room lectures performed during the first semester in 2009.
