This study investigated material properties of two kinds of the spherical embolic agents (SEA) namely, SAP-MS with the superabsorbent and Embosphere without the superabsorbent, used for vascular interventional radiology by load-unload compression test. The SEAs are soft particles like a gel. In both SEAs, the relation between the force and displacement curve appeared to be nonlinear with showing hysteresis. Young's modulus was estimated using Hertz theory with an assumption of imcompressibility for SEA particles that set the Poisson's ratio of 0.5. Young's modulus of SAP-MS and Embosphere was 9.84±2.50 kPa and 20.7±4.84 kPa respectively, addressing higher stiffness for Embosphere than SAP-MS. Such a difference in Young's modulus would affect the position where the blood vessels are embolized.
