Abstract

The occurrence of various types of chalky kernels was investigated for rice crops (var. Koshihikari and Hatsuboshi) grown in a paddy. The clipping treatments of flag leaves and panicles were given to rice plants at the full heading stage in order to change the carbohydrate supply per grain. Chalky kernels occurred under temperature conditions of 27-28℃ on average for the early grainfilling phase irrespective of the carbohydrate supply. Reduced carbohydrate supply increased the rate of milky-white kernel, but did not give significant effects on the occurrence of the other types of chalky kernels.
