抄録

Large or small scale ground cave-in's often occur in urban areas. Cave-in is usually initiated by the formation of cavity in the ground due to soil loss. Then it is possible that the hidden subsurface cavity expands for a long time to eventually cause sudden collapse. In this report, possible causes of underground cavity formation and their features are explained. Among them, old deteriorated underground infrastructures are major causes of subsurface cavities. Depth of cavity, ground water condition and soil type are also thought to be significant factors for the expansion of cavity and loosening.
