Abstract

Measurements by surface electromyography (sEMG) are noninvasive and simple to apply to obtain signals of muscle action potentials. However, the sEMG potentials of muscles near the electrode are superimposed, called "crosstalk". This paper develops a method measuring individual muscle activity of forearm muscles using sEMG distribution and a conduction model of the forearm for measuring individual muscle activities. The optimized individual muscle activities are calculated from sEMG with flexion load to a middle phalanx of a middle finger of 3 subjects. As a result, the muscle activity of flexor digitorum superficialis nearly proportional to load was obtained.
