To investigate effects of a natural state of an elastic cellular membrane of a red blood cell (RI3C) on the single RBC motion, a two-dimensional computer simulation of a blood flow was carried out for a constant shear flow using a particle method. As a blood component, blood plasma and RBC were considered. Stretch/compression and bending springs were used to express elastic properties of the RBC membrane, in which a bending angle in the natural state was considered. The motion of all the particles that was subjected to incompressible viscous flow was solved based on Navier-Stokes equations. A simulation result demonstrated that spatial distribution of a natural state of the RBC membrane plays an important role in the rotational motion of the single RBC characterized by tank-treading and tumbling motions.
