Abstract

It is a major matter of concern to lead economic development by enhancing the quality of education for all countries. Although Japan has already accomplished it, and taken part in rich countries, Philippines is still developing and struggle to compete on the global stage by revitalize science teaching. This paper compares the science teaching program in biology field between Philippines and Japan to promote educational reforms in Philippines. As a result of comparison, there is not much difference between programs, but it was found out that the learning methods were different. Thus, the biology programs in Philippines focus on acquiring knowledge, while the program in Japan emphasizes exploratory learning and an ecological issue. It is necessary to fill the gap between them to improve the education in Philippines.

教育を充実し，いかに経済発展につなげるかはどの国家にとっても重要な関心事である。日本はすでにそれを達成し，豊かな国の仲間入りを果たしているが，フィリピンはその途上にある。そこで，フィリピンは自然科学教育を充実し，先進国に追いつこうとしている。本論文では，フィリピンと日本の中等教育の自然科学教育，特に，生物に関する教育を比較し，フィリピンの教育の充実への方策を追究した。その結果，学習内容としては両国ともに大きな差はあるとは考えられなかったが，学習方法に差が見られた。つまり，日本においては探究的な手法や環境問題を絡めての学習が重視されるが，フィリピンでは十分な教材教具が整備されていないため，知識獲得に重点が置かれがちである。これを改善することが必要であると考えた。
