Abstract

Today, many inpatients that are highly dependent on medical treatment are admitted in acute hospitals as the period of inpatient hospitalization has decreased. Therefore, it is important to establish a methodology for allocating inpatients in order to providing appropriate care to them. To achieve this, it is necessary to clarify appropriate processes to determine sickbeds according to the state of an individual patient. In this paper, we first identified "attributes and needs associated with inpatients" and "functions related to sickbeds" by considering "the role of hospital treatment." In addition, we designed a process model for determining adequate functions of sickbeds by use of inpatient's needs. Then, we constructed "a supporting system for bed control" based on aforesaid model. We confirmed efficacy of our model according to apply this system to actual cases. In the future, we expect that this model enables to allocate inpatients efficiently by building in ideas of skill in nursing or hope of patients.
