Abstract

Micro-bubble generation due to a vortex breakdown of high-speed gas-liquid two-phase swirling flow was investigated in the present study. The control of the position and type of the vortex breakdown is crucial for the generation of the micro-bubbles. It greatly depends on the nozzle shape and the air discharge supplied to the nozzle. The air discharge under which micro-bubbles are efficiently generated depends on the pressure in the air vortex core. Numerical analysis was performed to study the sorting of bubbles at the vortex breakdown region, i.e., only bubbles which size is less than some critical value are ejected from the nozzle.
