抄録

We performed spectral direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer (TBL) over a flat plate using a fringe region. In the DNS with 4608×512×768 grid points, we attained R_θ=835~2443 outside the fringe region. Here R_θ is the Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness. A short log-law-like region was observed for R_θ>2000 in the flow field of the TBL. Visualizations of the TBL flow fields suggest that coalescence of the same-signed cane-type neighbor vortices is one of the typical mechanisms of the growth of the hairpin-like vortex packets in the log-law region of the TBL.
