Abstract

Break-up of the liquid curtain bridged between two edge guides is studied experimentally. The propagation velocity of the rim and the inclination angle to the edge guide are measured and compared with the analytical results which is based on the momentum conservation law. The line images of the time-series pictures are unified to give a single picture by which the evolution of the rim is visualized. The analysis shows that the theoretical value of the propagation velocity of the rim becomes quite larger than the experimental value. Also, the effect of the rotation speed of the roller on the break-up phenomenon is investigated. As the speed increases, the rim profile becomes vertical because of the increase of the liquid velocity.
