Abstract
Variations of sugar, organic acid and free amino acid contents in strawberry cultivars 'Nyoho' and 'Toyonoka' under different fruit growth seasons (mid-Nov. 〜late-Jun.) for four years were investigated, and the relationships with cultivation environments were examined. Fruit growth days had a significant negative correlation with average solar radiation and temperatures (Min., Av., Max.) and a significant positive correlation with integrated Max. temperatures during growth. In both cultivars, fruit growth days in the high temperature period (late-May〜late-Jun.) were approximately half of those in low temperature period (mid-Nov. 〜mid-Jan.). In the high temperature period, sugar content decreased; acid content increased; sugar acid ratio declined; and total amino acid content decreased rapidly, whereas ratio of primary amino acids asparagine and glutamine fluctuated between different growth seasons.
