The sudden arrival of the U. S. naval warships (consists of two steam ships and two sailers) lead by Admiral Perry, Cormander of East India Naval Force, at Uraga Harber on June 3, 1853 (HANEI, 6th) and verious responses of the Tokugawa Goverman [Tokugawa Bakufu] have been well discussed by many historians. It is, however, little known the fact that Tokugawa Goverment was notified of the Perry's plan by Holland Governt one year prior to his sudden visit to Uraga Harber. The paper discusses the Tokugawa Government's verious responses preparing for the visit, upon Holland natifications. The Tokugawa Government's struggle in dealing with this problem went on for one year prior to the Uraga incident.
