Abstract

核家族化, 個人化の進んでいる現代では, ペットは単なる飼育動物の域を超え｢コンパニオン･アニマル｣と呼ばれ, その親密な存在の死に伴う｢ペットロス｣という用語は, 学校教育現場でも用いられつつある｡ペットの死に伴う感情やその死への関わりは, ティーチヤブル･モーメントとして｢いのち教育｣の好機である｡しかし, それらの言葉の背後にある心情やその理解については, 十分に認識されていない現状である｡ゆえに, いのち教育の一環としてのペットロスについての基礎的知見を得るために, 本調査を行った｡結果として, 心理尺度では"協同努力型人生観""多彩型人生観""信仰型人生観""金銭重視型人生観"の4因子が抽出された｡"協同努力型人生観"は最もペットロスに陥りやすく, "金銭重視型人生観"はペット葬に反対であり, 女性の方が男性よりもペットロスに陥りやすい結果が示された｡自由記述では, ｢ペット葬賛成｣派が約6割を占めた｡｢ペット葬反対｣派も回答としては反対ではあるが, その記述を考察すると｢賛成｣派であった。ペット喪失悲嘆から立ち直った契機としては｢時間の経過｣が最多であり, 先行研究で見られない記述として, ｢ペットについての知識, ペットロスについてあらかじめ勉強しておく, 心の準備をしておく｣が得られた｡本調査により, 人生観や性別とペットロスとの関係性や, ペット葬の必要性への認識, ペット飼育の知識やペットロスについて事前学習の重要性が示され, ｢いのち教育｣の一環としてのペットロス学習の意義が得られた｡

Japanese living alone or in nuclear families have begun to think of pets more as "companions" than as mere animals. The death of companion animals occasions "pet loss" -–a term increasingly used in school settings –-that creates "teachable moments" eminently amenable to education about life and death. However, the emotions and worldviews underlying "pet loss " are not yet adequately understood. This survey was designed to acquire basic knowledge about pet-loss for its relevance to life and death education.Our psychological survey divided students' worldviews into four types: cooperative self-reliant, variable type, pious, and money- reliant. The cooperative self-reliant type showed more grief at the loss of a pet, as did females.Roughly 60% agreed with the value of pet funerals; this number was even greater when we scrutinized their open-ended comments.The pecuniary type most tended to oppose pet funerals. For recovery from grief at the loss of a pet, "passage of time "was the most often cited reason, but "prior study of pets and pet loss," and " mental preparedness for the death of a pet, " were given as reasons that have not appeared in earlier research.This study related students' pet-loss to their worldviews, gender, valuing of pet funerals, and prior study of pets and pet loss. It suggests that the study of pets and pet loss can be an important aspect of education about life and death.
