Abstract

秋季生長に優れる寒地向きオーチャードグラス品種を育成するために,越冬性の異なる4品種を用いて,秋季の休眠性と耐凍性の変化に及ぼす日長の影響を明らかにした。秋季の生長量は,「アキミドリ」が多く「北海28号」が少なかった。低温・24時日長条件下における耐凍性の増大と休眠の深まりは,「北海28号」は低温・自然短日々長下より約2週遅れたが,「アキミドリ」は11月17日までは日長間の差異が小さかった。「北海28号」の秋季休眠と低温馴化は短日に反応して促進されるが,「アキミドリ」は11月上旬までは日長感応性が低いことが明らかとなった。寒地向き品種の秋季生長改良のためには,生育停止までの生長を増やし,11月上旬までの日長感応性を低めて,それ以降速やかに耐凍性を高めるように育種する必要があることが示された。

To improve winter hardiness and forage yield in the fall in orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) for the Hokkaido region, changes in fall dormancy, freezing tolerance and water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) concentration in crown tissues during cold acclimation in the fall under low temperature and natural short day-length (SDL) and low temperature and 24-hour day-length condition were evaluated using four cultivars of orchardgrass with different levels of winter hardiness. Fall growth was the highest for 'Akimidori' and was lowest for 'Hokkai 28'. 'Hokkai 28' rapidly intensified fall dormancy and freezing tolerance under low temperature and natural SDL condition. Whereas 'Hokkai 28' showed large difference of freezing tolerance between day-length conditions from 7 October to 17 November, that in 'Akimidori' was small. The relationship between WSC concentration and changes of freezing tolerance was not clear in all cultivars. These experiments revealed that 'Hokkai 28' was sensitive to SDL at early stage of cold acclimation whereas 'Akimidori' was not sensitive to it. To develop a superior winter-hardy cultivar of orchardgrass with high fall growth in the Hokkaido region, it is important to increase the growth in late fall and reduce the sensitivity to SDL till early November with maintaining freezing tolerance after middle November.
