Abstract

正規分布は,数学や物理学において最も基本的で,重要な分布関数と考えられている.例えば,実験観測の測定誤差が正規分布に従うというのは,よく知られた事実である.だが実際には,自然界や人間社会に見られる「複雑系」とも称される系においては,べき分布や対数正規分布などの裾の長い分布関数が観測されることが多い.本稿では,対数正規分布が出現する数理的なメカニズムを紹介し,対数正規分布を基本としてべき分布や正規分布が出現し得るということを紹介する.また,自然現象や社会現象に見られる対数正規分布と,その出現メカニズムについて考察する.

The normal distribution is believed to be a universal distribution in nature. However, we often find many examples which obey skewed distributions, such as the power-law and the lognormal distributions, in both natural and social phenomena. In this article we demonstrate novel and various examples which obey the lognormal distributions and try to explain why the lognormal behavior is often observed in complex systems.
