A preliminary antifouling activity assay against the blue mussels, Mytilus galoprovincialis, which is one of the typical fouling organisms, were conducted by using EtOAc and water soluble portions of MeOH extracts of 24 medicinal plants from Southeast Asia, by the improved method of Ina et al., in November, 1993 and February, 1994. EtOAc extracts (10 mg/zone) of Gluta renghas, Blumera balsamifera and Acacia rugata were shown to have the activity similar to that of CuSO_4 -5H_2O (1 mg/ zone).
