抄録

A very large-scale speech database produced by dialectal speakers from all over Japan has recently been completed. The speech was collected by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research for Priority Areas funded by the Ministry of Education and Science from 1989 to 1993. Many different kinds of speech data for studying Japanese were collected from elderly informants at 105 dialectal spots all over Japan, and from 60〜100 informants belonging to five generations brought up in each of the thirteen main cities of Japan. All the speech was edited into 38 DVDs by the CIAIR (Center for Integrated Acoustic Information Research) COE (Center of Excellence). This paper describes the contents and characteristics of the database including the dialects representative of speech from all over Japan.
