Bamboo plants grow rapidly, reaching their maximum size within a few months. Effective ways of utilizing bamboo are also attractive from a landscape preservation perspective. Bamboo pulp was prepared by soda-anthraquinone cooking to increase the susceptibility to cellulase. The combined whole crushed medium from Trichoderma reesei and Aspergillus tubingensis, grown on the solid-state medium was mixed with thermotolerant yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae BA-11 to gain higher ethanol concentration under simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. The addition of Aspergillus enzyme resulted in an increased ethanol concentration of 4.4 wt% and the ethanol yield of 80% at 40℃ after 6 days of fermentation in a small reactor having a working volume of about 0.7 L.
