Abstract

A recent study reported that social network may have impact on our health. The challenging' issue is to develop the way to capture social network within small-area unit. This is because social network, in practice, is measured by the ties between friends, neighbors, etc, we need to pay attention to handle of such personal information. In light of these backgrounds, this study tried to capture social network on the basis of area sampling survey using geodemographics which can classify households in ,Japan by allocating them to one of 11 types at the small-area unit level (a cho-cho or aza unit level). Our results showed the variations of social network between small-area units and these results seem to be matched with real world such as urban and rural situation. Further studies are needed to develop the way to map a whole network within small-area unit.
