Abstract

Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is defined as hypergonadotropic amenorrhea which occurs in 1% of all women. The patients suffer from syndromes from estrogen insufficiency and infertility. Also, they suffer from the sense of loss of reproductive activity. Infertility treatment is very difficult and had been considered to be impossible. Analysis of our 425 patients revealed that 15% of them had chromosomal abnormalities and 48% showed at least one auto antibodies tested. With our program of estrogen and progestin replacement to control serum FSH levels, we have performed 28 oocyte pickups (31.8%), obtained 23 ooytes (82.1 %) and cryopreserved 13 embryos during 88 stimulatory cycles in 88patients. This indicates that ART is useful in, at least, part of the POI patients. Presently, we are attempting to develop in vitro activation from oophorectmized and cryopreserved ovarian tissue from POI patients.
