Abstract

The dictionary function of the Reading Tutorial System is being expanded to include a component with specialized vocabulary for foreign nationals in the field of care giving. This new component is aimed specifically at Indonesian and Filipino speakers who come to Japan under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Under this agreement, candidates work at care facilities in Japan while studying for the required national examination for caregivers. In the present project, a corpus study was made of vocabulary found both in the national examinations and case records from care facilities to develop a word list of items often encountered in the field. The resulting vocabulary list was translated into Indonesian and Filipino and incorporated as a mini-dictionary within the Reading Tutorial System.
