In 1970 the Inner London Education Authority established the Centre for Language in Primary Education as a core centre for developing teachers' education regarding language and literacy with multi socio-cultural contexts which primary schools belong to. This paper will shed light on how the Centre contributed to develop teaching writing during the 1980's by analyzing the contents reported in the Centre magazine, Language Matters. Especially, shared writing that the Centre had explored and promoted was thoroughly considered in relation with Holdaway's shared reading.
