Tsunami warning of major tsunami/tsunami was issued by The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) in the morning of the next day of occurrence of the magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the Chilean coast on February 27, 2010, and it was followed by issuance of evacuation warning alerts by local goverments in the related regions. The ratios of the number of evacuees to that of residents necessary to be evacuated were extremely low. Authors have conducted a preliminary investigation on resident evacuation from the tsunami expected to hit by individual interviews to 53 residents in 23 districts of 6 cities in Ehime and Kochi prefectures. This paper reports the result of the investigation.
