Abstract

The purpose of this paper is two. The first is to restore the placement of the head office and the branch on banks in North Ibaraki, and to explain the process of the merger of the banks. The second is to elucidate a certain relation between bank placement and local markets area in North Ibaraki.The results were following. Most of the head office or the branches of banks were established before 1900.And most of these were established in the center of the business on Japanese paper, leaf tobacco and wood. Most of managers of the banks participated in the business of the Japanese paper, leaf tobacco and wood. These markets which were fonned in the latter of the Edo era were maintained until the 1930s. The location of the banks was prescribed in the market of the product.
