Abstract

To obtain further understanding of the energy transfer in light harvesting (LH) dendrimer, we studied optical spectra of LH antenna component molecules and examined the electronic structure of these molcules. In 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene and 1,3-diphenylbenzene, absorption peaks of π-π* transition in aromatic rings were observed. In 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene having four aromatic rings, the the absorption peak appears at the lower energy side than that of the 1,3-diphenylbenzene. In the case of trans-stilbene, the π-π* absorption peak shifts to red furthermore. These red shifts of the π-π* absorption peaks are related to the spatial expanision of the π-conjugation network in these LH antennas. In addition, a rather small relaxation energy for vibronic cascade process is found in trans-stilbene. It is considered that energy transfer can be realized ultrafastly in the LH dendrimer having trans-stilbene antennas through the vibronic cascade process in the shallow adiabatic potential in the excited sates of LH- antennas.
