Abstract

The box and ball system(BBS) is a pure soliton system and its all variables are digital. We give the basic definition of BBS and review recent developments of research about BBS and related subjects; crystal bases, cellular automata, traffic congestion model, asymmetric simple exclusion process, tropical geometry, epidemic model and solvable chaos.
