Abstract
In this study, learning strategies of Japanese language learners using the Strategy Inventory of Language Learning (SILL) (Oxford, 1990) were investigated. Data was collected from 220 Chinese / Korean native language speakers. Attention was given to the following factors: use of media for Japanese learning, students' mother language, Japanese-language proficiency, and the distinction of sex. Influences of these factors on learning strategies were analyzed. Some of the results show that: The learning strategies of Japanese language learners are different depending on the learning group and whether the frequency of media contact is high or low. Five types of media were compared. In Japanese language learning, media contact and learning strategies are different between Chinese students studying in Japan with students residing in China. Chinese students use printed type media better than Koreans. In conclusion, reasons for these were discussed.
