An analytical model for lead-rubber bearings is proposed to predict bearing force-displacement behavior under extremely large deformation. Static loading tests of a lead-rubber bearing under a range of axial loads were performed to assist in the development of a new hysteresis model for large shear deformation behavior. The hysteresis model is combined with the mechanical model based on the two-spring model previously proposed by Koh and Kelly. The bearing test results showed that the mechanical properties, such as changes in shear stiffness and buckling characteristics, varied with the applied axial load. The proposed model can successfully predict a variety of force-displacement relationships for lead-rubber bearings taking into account the level of applied axial load.
