Abstract

The present paper investigates the buckling behavior of the two-way single layer lattice dome with nodal eccentricity and then proposes the procedure how to evaluate the buckling strength of the dome using concept of column buckling. The estimation procedure based on this concept encompasses several steps: (1) a linear buckling analysis, (2) followed by a calculation of generalized slenderness ratio of the specific member that is the most relevant to their loading capacities, (3) and the generalized slenderness ratio is applied to obtain the axial strength for the specific member, based on which elasto-plastic buckling load is evaluated. The comparison of the evaluated buckling loads with those obtained from FEM elasto-plastic buckling analyses proves that the procedure is well enough to be applied in design practice. In the last part, characteristic of the proposed domes subjected by repeated snow loads is described.
