Abstract

This study introduces and examines the validity of a new analysis method of teaching materials research in classical literature by focusing on "Sarashina Nikki" (published in about 1060). Previous studies were reviewed, and "Sarashina Nikki" was examined as the most appropriate methodology for its ability to reveal the embedded essential structure of the author's life history. This method's ease of understanding and application by learners were also examined. The results were as follows. (1) The method of topological analysis was shown to extend the range of teaching materials research in classical literature. (2) Using this method, the symmetric structure embedded in "Sarashina Nikki" was identified for the first time.
