Abstract

The usage condition of protective wear for hand-held chainsaw was investigated and the realities of improper usage and management were clarified. In particular, there are two areas where improvement is required. One is washing using an improper method, i.e. in a washing machine etc. Another is handling protective wear damaged while in use or of repairing the damaged part, etc. Such actions have potentially impaired the protective ability of the wear actually used. Such improper use was thought to be attributable to the low degree of recognition of notes described in the manual. It was also clarified that those owning such protective wear did not always wear it at work. The use of protective wear is crucial to mitigate forestry labor disasters, while an approach that targets an improved wearing rate is important to maintain the protection level and ensure the user understands the correct handling method as described in the manual.
