Abstract

低次モードファイバ、特に2モードファイバ(TMF)を用いたモード多重伝送(MDM)について概説する。先ず70年の筆者等の低モード間群遅延(DMGD) TMFの発明を紹介し、WDM伝送のための広波長域でほぼ零DMGDを実現するためのDMGD補償TMF伝送路について述べ、LP_<01>, LP_<11>モード伝送の実験結果を示す。次にモードチャネル間のクロストークの影響を等化するためのTMF MIMO伝送システムについて、MIMOのディジタル信号処理に必要な計算量とDMGDの関係について論じ、チャネルインパルス応答の測定結果を示す。最後に、TMF MDMの導入シナリオの一例として、メトロ光ネットワークへの適用の可能性を議論し、さらにMDMノードの構成方法等を示す。

Mode division multiplexing (MDM) transmission is reviewed, particularly focusing on low differential mode group delay (DMGD) two-mode fiber (TMF) link for WDM networks. For the starter, I will revisit the invention of an original TMF in late 70's, followed by the structural design optimization of low DMGD TMF and DMGD-compensated TMF link in a wide spectral region, and the experimental transmission characteristics of two guided modes, LP_<01> and LP_<11> modes are presented. Next, the TMF multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission system for equalizing the channel crosstalk will be reviewed. The computational complexity of digital signal processing for MIMO equalization with respect to the DMGD will be discussed, and the channel impulse response of test TMF will be presented. Finally, the feasibility of a deployment scenario of TMF in MDM over WDM metro area network and the MDM node architecture will be discussed.
