Abstract

A positive correlation between parental efforts of a male and a female should promote stable biparental care of their offspring. Both male and female of burying beetles maintain the nest and regurgitate to young. In this review, it is first focused on whether the presence of male improves the reproductive success. Although the male presence prevents infanticide effectively, other benefit has not been found for the attending male parent. Second, how the parent adjusts their feeding-young activities is discussed in relation to the "negotiation model". In addition, problems and future directions of studies on the male attendance in offspring care of burying beetles are discussed.
