A concept of claw mixer was proposed as a jet noise reduction device. A claw mixer, composed of several nails, is installed at the nozzle end. The nail, having a sharp edge on one side and decreasing its cross-sectional area toward the tip, is expected to generate disturbances in the shear layer jet to enhance mixing process behind the nozzle. In addition to the ongoing subscale model tests, a noise test on a large-scale nozzle using a jet engine was planned. This paper outlines the engine noise test and the results with regard to the 5 types of claw mixers. The tested claw mixers provided noise reduction like conventional mixers; they suppressed well middle and lower frequency noise in rear direction but increased additional higher frequency noise. A simple estimation without thrust penalty suggested the noise margin more than 1.5dB in EPNL at lateral point.
